It's a personal preference.
Both therapies will raise your heart rate, get your circulation working and make you sweat. Having both Saunas at home will have many health and wellbeing benefits.
Steam saunas work by pouring a small amount water on top of hot rocks that are heated by an electric stove. This creates the steam.
The Infrared saunas work by heating the skin directly with infrared energy, this is a dry heat and some customers find it may be more comfortable at higher temperatures.
Infrared sauna
The infrared sauna heats your body directly as well as the cabin space using infrared panels that are evenly distributed across the cabin. Our saunas are equipped with infrared panels, designed in carbon, Quartz or Magnesium, for a longer average lifespan and a wider distribution of heat than ceramic panels.
We regularly get asked Is Infrared light safe?
It is Yes. All our infrared saunas use the "Healthy" range of Infrared light. There is no damaging UV light in the infrared saunas.
All our saunas are EU Safety compliant.
Another question we get asked is : What is the difference between Quartz and Magnesium Infrared?
Quartz emitters contain the full spectrum of the infrared range. Near, Mid and Far infrared. This also emits a visible "warming glow" and penetrates deeper into the skin for a more intense heat. This is great for muscle aches and pains & sports recovery.
The Magnesium emitters contains the far range of the infrared spectrum only. Some customers find this a more gentle, enveloping heat. It is in the invisible range of the spectrum. This is great for the skin and detox.
The shorter the wavelength (near) the more intense the heat.
All our infrared saunas are Full Spectrum Infrared.
The Apollon range carries the Quartz full spectrum emitters, and the Spectra range has both Quartz full spectrum and Magnesium far infrared emitters.

Traditional steam sauna
The traditional steam sauna uses an electric heater with sauna rocks on which you can add water and generate steam as you want. The steam sauna is designed to heat the ambient air in your cabin, which will then warm your body and allow you to sweat.
The heat is higher in temperature and moist air. Great for the skin and the muscles.
It is therefore advisable to take a few minutes break during your session to hydrate yourself.
